個人事業主という存在は決して凄くない
初対面の方に「職業は？」と聞かれて、自営業・フリーランサー・個人事業主などと答えると、必ずと言っていいほど感心されます。
ですが、私はこう言いたい。フリーランスの何がスゴイことか、と……
「組織に属していないから楽でしょ」
「時間に縛られない生活が羨ましい」
「収入が多そうで僻む」
そんなことを思いながら言ったのだろうけど、そのような生活を送って優雅に暮らしている事業主なんて本当に一握りでしょう。
組織に属していないから気が楽そうという点ですが、確かに社長や個人事業主の場合、行動は全て自分が決定するので上司などの命令してくるヒトがいません。これだけ聞くと、確かに気は楽そうです。ですがよく考えてみてください。自分と言う存在は本当に命令や拘束がなくても毎日しっかりと仕事を熟せますか？
「俺・私なら大丈夫だろう」
そう思っていた時期が私にもありました。しかしいざ独立すると、最初はしっかり労働時間を定めて規律ある生活をしていたのにも関わらず、ふと気づくと夜更かしをしてお昼に起きる生活になったりして、だらだらと仕事を始めていました。
そうなると中々もとには戻せません。そして色々な方に迷惑がかかったりします。やはり時間・命令に縛られない生活でも計画性を重んじる必要はあると思います。
個人事業主で成功してるのは一握り
そしてよく勘違いされるのが「自営業者はお金持ち」という観念ですが、これも間違いです。もちろん自営業者の中にはサラリーマンの何倍もの収入を得ている方もいるでしょう。しかし、2012年に「自営業者とサラリーマンの平均収入額の差」という統計が新聞記事で発表されました。結果なんと、自営業者の平均収入額はサラリーマンの2分の1だそうです。
昨今の不況下ではこれも仕方のないことかもしれませんが、自営業者は基本的に「今後はどのように利益獲得を目指すか」「どうしてリピーターが減ったのか」など、収入安定の為に常時頭をフル回転させて戦略を練る必要があります。そうまでしてもサラリーマンの収入の半分にも届かない。これはもう経済面ではサラリーマンが圧倒的に安定していると言わざるを得ません。
個人事業主はよく自分の過酷な生活を隠し、優雅に振る舞う傾向がありますが、実際はほとんどが毎日毎日悩み、苦しんでいます。
個人事業主の自慢話を聞いて、自分も独立したくなった！と思う方も多いかもしれません。ですが、もう一度よく考えてみてください。組織に属する気軽さ・毎月決まった収入が得られる安定性・自分を引っ張ってくれる上司がいる心強さを―――。
